GOD’S PRESCRIPTION FOR WORRY

Psalms 77:2  In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted.

Have you ever been kept awake and could not sleep? The eyelids or the eye guardians just would not close? You blame God for your troubles and your mind is packed with unwholesome and unwelcome thought? How do you unpack your minds, quiet your heart, close your eyes and have a good night sleep?
The psalmist here was kept awake; he could not sleep.  There was an oozing taking place either mentally or bodily.  He needed answer and so he blamed God for being “forgotten to be gracious” (verses 7-9).  Was his blame founded?  Should we ever blame God when adverse things befall us?
When we understand that the problem with worrying is, it is unhelpful, unreasonable and unhealthy and that God cares in spite of whom we are and that He would take good care of us, everything should change.  David says in Psalms 23:1, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want”.  He was declaring we would not be in want of anything because as a Shepherd, God will protect, provide, guide and even correct when necessary.
When the Psalmist began to use His mind on contemplative meditation on the goodness of God and he verbalized his thoughtful illumination in regard to God’s character, he found peace.  He concluded in verse 12, “I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.”

When we are bombarded with thoughts that do not quiet the heart and mind, we can reflect on “days of old” and the goodness of God.
